The Role of the Economic Sector in Regional Development in Bitung City, Minahasa Regency and Manado City (BIMINDO) North Sulawesi Province
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the contribution of the economic sector to regional development in the BIMINDO Area, North Sulawesi Province. This study uses a descriptive approach using the Location Quotient (LQ) and Shift-share methods, this study identifies the potential and challenges faced by the economic sectors in the region. Secondary data used includes information on Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) from 2019 to 2023. The results of the study show that the manufacturing, transportation, and warehousing sectors in Bitung City; the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors in Minahasa Regency; and the wholesale and retail trade sector, as well as financial services in Manado City have a significant role in increasing GRDP, which is an important indicator of regional economic growth. This study recommends special attention from the South Sulawesi Provincial Government to encourage increased productivity of leading sectors, so that they can contribute more to economic development in the BIMINDO Area. These findings are expected to be the basis for formulating more effective policies and development planning
