Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that has the potential to threaten the quality of people in Central Java. In 2022, around 20.8% of toddlers in Central Java will be stunted. There was a significant slowdown in the reduction of stunting from 2021-2022 (0.1%) compared to the 2018-2021 period (3% per year) accompanied by an increase in baby born short and acute nutritional problems (underweight, wasting). Community-based nutritional surveillance is only able to capture no more than 50% of stunting cases. Analysis of causes and context indicates that the achievement of performance indicators between interventions for adolescent girls, pregnant women and toddlers has not been optimal. Although the achievements of sensitive and specific intervention programs largely meet targets, program leverage tends to be low. Data from program convergence, surveys and even research are still scattered, making it difficult to use them as material for improving programs and policies. Therefore, a follow-up plan to accelerate stunting reduction in 2024-2028 needs to be prepared immediately as a response to the current situation. The plan must ensure strengthening the quality of pre-pregnancy programs, capacity for early detection of acute nutritional problems along with prevention and treatment, improving data quality and access through special dashboards, and positive communication strategies to prevent negative stigma. It is urgent to increase access to education for women and reduce the rate of early marriage. A strong role is needed from the Stunting Reduction Acceleration Team (TPPS) of Central Java, Local Development Planning Agency (BAPPEDA) of Central Java Province, and Health Service Agency of Central Java Province to ensure the quality of implementation of policies and programs down to the village level.
