Assessment hypothesis of African Night Crawler Worms (Eudrilus eugeniae) as an Alternative Feed for White Snapper Fish (Lates calcarifer
Abstract
The cultivation of barramundi (Asian seabass) in Indonesia presents several challenges despite its promising potential. One of the main challenges is the high cost and limited availability of sustainable feed. This study aims to examine the literature on ANC (African Night Crawler) worms as an alternative feed source in barramundi (Lates calcarifer) cultivation. The methodology used in this research includes a literature review and a quantitative approach through a site visit to a mariculture facility in Telong-elong, East Lombok. The literature review involved analyzing the nutritional content of ANC worms based on previous research and evaluating the nutritional requirements of barramundi. According to the findings from the literature review, African Night Crawler worms contain 50-60% protein, 7-10% fat, and 10-15% carbohydrates. ANC worms are highly regarded in vermicomposting due to their exceptional ability to break down organic matter into nutrient-rich compost. The ANC worm is also one of the superior worms for cultivation due to its fast growth, high productivity (10-15 kg/m²), and low production cost (Rp.6,600/kg). The study concludes that African Night Crawler worms are well-suited to meet the nutritional needs of barramundi feed.
