Behavior and Practice Pesticide Handler's Who had been Poisoned by Organophosphorus Pesticide at sub District Pacet- WestJava

Abstrak

Cianjur district  is famous of its various  vegetables  using pesticide  in their cultivations.   Monitoring  by the district   health  worker  in  I 995  showed,  there were 31,5%   farmers  mildly   and 9,6%  moderately  poison  by pesticide. The purpose of this cross sectional  study in Pacet subdistrict,   Cianjur  district  West Java is to observe and describe  the attitude  and behaviour   of, as well as, pesticide  handling   by pesiicide handlers   who had been poisoned.   Subject  of the study  is pesticide   handlers   with   cholinest• erase  activity  :,;  75%.   The  cholinesterase    activity  is determined    by tintometrcally    using Lovibond  Tintometer  Field  Kit. The result showed  that 3 l , 13%   of pesticide   handlers  cholinesterase   activity=   75% (mildly poisoned)  and  18,18%    had cholinesterase   activity  62,5% (moderately   poisoned).   Other than the cloth  they  wore,  only 2,86%  pesticide  handlers  wearing  complete  protection,   17, 14% wearing  gloves,  shous  and hat,  77,14%,   wearing  only hat, 68,6%   pesticide  handlers  didn't the habbitdrinking   and smoking  while spraying,  9,5% drinking   and smoking  while  spraying, 9,5% drinking,   I 1,4%  smoking  and  I 0,5% had both drinking  and smoking  habbit.  The study found  that 71,43%   pesticide  handlers  using  dose  exceeding  the dose  at the  label,   and the other 28,57%  obeyed  the recommended   dose.  Only 67,62%  pesticide  handlers  took a bath immediately   after spraying.
